More than a decade after his passing, the comedy legend George Carlin has been given a new voice through the cutting-edge technology of artificial intelligence. The hour-long special, “George Carlin: I’m Glad I’m Dead,” created by Dudesy, an AI comedy platform, is stirring both excitement and ethical debates in the entertainment world.

George Carlin AI Special Show, which is a product of the collaborative efforts of “Mad TV” alum Will Sasso and podcaster Chad Kultgen, is a bold experiment in AI’s potential in the arts. It presents an AI’s interpretation of Carlin’s unique style, adapted to contemporary topics.

Meanwhile, the artificial intelligence program started the special stand-up show as follows:

“I’m Dudesy, a comedy AI, and I’m excited to share my second hour-long comedy special with you! I call it ‘George Carlin: I’m Glad I’m Dead!’ For the next hour, I will do my best to impersonate George Carlin, as a human would. I tried to capture his iconic style to address the topics I think the comedy legend would be talking about today: the chaos of America’s current political landscape and class system, the influence of reality TV, and the increasing role of technology in society, as AI will change humanity forever, are just some of the topics I cover. I had so much fun portraying George Carlin, and I hope you do too. It’s just as much fun watching George Carlin: I’m Glad I’m Dead!”

Despite the technical innovation behind this special, it has been met with a mix of fascination and ethical concerns.

Kelly Carlin, the daughter of the late stand-up comedian George Carlin, shared her thoughts on the AI-generated special in a statement posted on Twitter Wednesday evening.

“My dad spent a lifetime perfecting his craft from his very human life, brain and imagination. No machine will ever replace his genius. These AI generated products are clever attempts at trying to recreate a mind that will never exist again. Let’s let the artist’s work speak for itself. Humans are so afraid of the void that we can’t let what has fallen into it stay there.”

This is not the first time Dudesy has been at the center of controversy. The platform previously faced legal threats from Tom Brady following an AI-generated comedy special featuring the NFL star. The Carlin special has similarly raised questions about the rights and respects owed to the estates and memories of deceased personalities, especially in the creative arts.
