X has rolled out a notable upgrade to its Grok AI tool, making video creation considerably more flexible for users on the platform. Grok can now take up to seven still images as reference inputs to generate a single video a shift from earlier, more limited single-image workflows.
The updated process allows users to upload a set of images and have Grok weave them into a video scene, with clips now stretching up to 30 seconds in length. That’s a meaningful jump for anyone using the platform for creative or content purposes.
For X Premium subscribers, the upgrade opens up even more creative possibilities. Since Premium users already have access to Grok’s image generation feature, they can build videos using fully AI-generated characters and visual elements keeping a more consistent look and feel throughout the final output, without relying on external tools.
The timing of the update also aligns with broader ambitions at X. Owner Elon Musk has been pushing for Grok to eventually support videos as long as 30 minutes, suggesting the platform sees long-form AI video as a major part of its roadmap.
That said, the feature doesn’t come without guardrails. X has restricted image generation within Grok to paying users following controversy over the tool being used to produce inappropriate depictions of real people. Musk has since outlined content parameters, stating that material permissible in an R-rated film would be acceptable within Grok’s image tools though whether that standard satisfies regulators remains an open question.
For now, the multi-image video feature marks a practical step forward in X’s push to make Grok a genuine creative hub within the platform.
