Could you share how your background and experiences led you to build Datrics AI?

Anton: My background is in mathematics, finance, and data science. I’ve worked at Barclays in investment banking and then took on a hands-on role as a data science consultant.

These experiences shaped my understanding of data science’s potential in driving business decisions, ultimately leading to the co-building of Datrics AI.

What inspired you to create Datrics AI, and how does it align with your current mission?

Anton: Our inspiration was democratizing data analytics and making it accessible. We aim to empower non-technical domain experts to harness data science for decision-making. While our implementation has evolved, the mission remains the same.

Initially, we focused on providing tools for analysts working with data daily. Today, with advancements in conversational interfaces, our platform also serves business users like sales, finance, and operations teams by offering automated insights and data-driven reports.

What was Datrics AI’s initial vision, and how long have you worked on this idea?

Anton: The vision for Datrics AI started forming a couple of years before we launched. My co-founders, Volodymyr and Kirill, and I officially began this journey four years ago.

We focused on building a low-code platform supported by Y Combinator and industry experts. Over time, we identified gaps in the market, particularly around customizable tools, which guided us to create a platform where each team could develop their own AI analyst.

Did you conduct any market research before launching Datrics AI?

Anton: Absolutely. Although we were young and enthusiastic when we began, we had first-hand experience with tools like Alteryx and DataRobot, which gave us insights into areas for improvement.

As we grew, we conducted thorough market research, including user interviews, which helped us shift our focus from data professionals to including business users as our primary end-users.

What is the story behind the name “Datrics“?

Anton: It combines “data” and “metrics,” which captures the essence of what we do—automatically providing data-driven metrics and insights.

What are Datrics AI’s primary objectives, and how does it meet the needs of data-driven businesses?

Anton:  Our main objectives are to enhance revenue streams by enabling quicker business decisions and optimizing costs by reducing time spent on data requests. Datrics AI helps users get data insights in seconds, which is invaluable for fast decision-making.

On the cost side, we save data teams from repetitive ad-hoc requests, freeing them to focus on more strategic tasks. This is highly valuable to any business in AI data analytics, whether for internal teams or customer-facing solutions.

How does Datrics AI differentiate itself from other no-code AI and BI tools?

Anton: While many no-code tools exist, most offer only off-the-shelf solutions that don’t cater to specific business needs.

Our approach is different; we provide customization options that allow each team to create tailored AI solutions, meeting unique internal vocabularies and calculation requirements. This flexibility is our core differentiator.

I saw a post on LinkedIn where you talked about giving “insights into a personality.” How does Datrics AI bring this concept to life?

Anton: Good question! We discovered that business users interpret data differently than technical analysts. To address this, we offer customizable AI agents that adapt their responses based on the role they’re created for.

With Datrics, insights for a CFO will differ from those for an analyst, even if they ask the same question.

This customization provides each user with relevant insights, reflecting the specific language, scenarios, and calculations familiar to their role.

How does Datrics AI simplify data analysis for businesses with limited data science resources?

Anton: Our platform is designed for two types of users: those preparing the AI analyst and those asking the questions.

  • Data teams or domain experts can connect various data sources to our platform and manage data pipelines with minimal coding.
  • Business users can then ask questions and receive answers in real-time. The platform’s flexibility allows non-technical users to gain insights without needing deep technical skills.

What types of data sources can Datrics AI integrate with?

Anton: Datrics AI integrates with various data platforms, including Databricks, Snowflake, BigQuery, and common tools like Google Sheets and Excel.

We also support API connections for real-time data, enabling users to analyze a broad range of data sources. This flexibility is crucial, as business decisions often require data from multiple systems we connect seamlessly.

How does Datrics AI handle large data sets and provide tailored business insights?

Anton: Our platform can manage millions of rows through Python-based processing, though huge data volumes may require customization. Datrics AI allows data aggregation at an optimal level, ensuring that insights are drawn from manageable data sets.

For businesses needing tailored insights from vast data, Datrics AI adjusts the AI’s logic to handle more complex data extractions.

How does Datrics AI transform raw data and user input into actionable insights?

Anton: Datrics AI addresses data readiness by educating users about data preparation. Often, raw data alone isn’t enough to generate accurate insights.

Our platform includes guardrails and cleansing techniques to ensure data quality, and we work closely with businesses to validate data before it reaches key stakeholders.

Does Datrics AI support all data formats, including visual and audio?

Anton: No. Currently, Datrics AI is designed to work with structured data, such as text and numerical data, in formats like CSV, Excel, and databases.

While we don’t process visual or audio data directly, we can work with transcripts or other text-based inputs derived from audio.

How user-friendly is Datrics AI for non-technical users?

Anton: We’ve put significant effort into ensuring Datrics AI is accessible to non-technical users. Users can ask questions in plain English, similar to how they would query a colleague. The platform interprets these questions and provides insights in an understandable format.

Data remains secure within the customer’s environment, and users can get started by simply connecting their data sources.

How does Datrics AI ensure data privacy and security?

Anton: With a background in finance and banking, we prioritize security. Datrics AI installs directly within the customer’s environment, ensuring data does not leave their network.

We offer models that don’t require internet connectivity, and any data shared with third-party models is limited to column names, not actual data. This approach protects sensitive data.

Can you share a success story where Datrics AI significantly improved a client’s data processing?

Anton: One notable example is a medium-sized bank where Datrics AI is actively used in production. The CFO’s office can now ask real-time questions about financial performance, portfolio status, and budget variances.

Previously, these insights took days or weeks to generate. Another success story involves an EdTech platform that uses Datrics to match candidates with job vacancies, saving hours in manual data processing.

What are users’ common challenges with Datrics AI, and how do you address them?

Anton: The primary challenges involve “hallucinations” (incorrect insights) and frustration with wrong answers. We use a deterministic approach for critical insights to tackle this, creating specific calculation scenarios.

We also add context and additional rules to improve answer accuracy. Customization is key in mitigating these issues and ensuring relevant and reliable insights.

What are Datrics AI’s key features?

Anton: Datrics AI offers a conversational interface, report generation, business intelligence forecasts, and data pipeline management. Users can embed the tool in their products, and it runs locally without external data exposure.

The platform includes low-code data scenario builders and customizable logic, making it suitable for technical and non-technical users.

What is Datrics AI’s growth trajectory?

Anton: Datrics AI has been generating revenue since early on, but our focus now is on scaling. Profitability for an AI tool depends on delivering real value to clients and building strong retention.

A custom-built in-house solution may take years to develop, but Datrics AI can be implemented in just weeks. This agility supports faster revenue generation.

Do you think AI poses a threat to data scientists?

Anton: No, AI will enhance the role of data scientists rather than replace it. AI can automate some repetitive tasks, freeing data scientists to focus on generating more profound insights and strategies.

With AI tools, data scientists can handle complex challenges and communicate findings more effectively with non-technical stakeholders.

Rather than replacing jobs, AI enables data scientists to contribute at a higher level.

What trends in AI should businesses prepare for, and where does Datrics AI fit into this landscape?

Anton: Businesses should prepare for increased reliance on AI-driven tools, especially those that enable faster, data-based decision-making.

Datrics AI fits into this trend by offering insights with minimal data science resources. Cybersecurity is also rapidly evolving, with AI enhancing security protocols and readiness.

With the proliferation of AI tools, do you think business processes are becoming more complex despite the tools’ advancement?

Anton: Yes, while AI tools make tasks more efficient, managing multiple tools can complicate workflows.

However, we’re likely to see tools emerge that automatically manage these various applications, similar to how different car manufacturers coexist without merging into one entity.

This competitive landscape also drives innovation, ensuring businesses access high-quality tools.

As a founder, what personal achievement or milestone in your journey with Datrics AI are you most proud of?

Anton: I’m incredibly proud of the team we’ve built. In both challenging and successful times, my co-founders and our head of AI and sales have shown unwavering dedication.

It’s rewarding to see our product, which took years to develop, now helping clients save time and resources in real-world applications.

However, the team’s unity and shared values make this journey worthwhile.

Do you think AI will ever replace humans?

Anton: No. I don’t believe AI will replace human intelligence anytime soon, especially not within the next 10 years. AI can efficiently handle specific tasks, like data analysis and visual processing.

While available, technologies like self-driving cars still need to be universally adopted due to integration challenges. AI will continue to assist rather than replace humans.

However, general artificial intelligence capable of fully mimicking human cognition needs to be revised.

What advice would you give young or aspiring entrepreneurs based on your journey with Datrics AI?

Anton: Embrace the journey itself rather than just the end goal. Starting can feel daunting, but engaging with users and taking every learning opportunity helps tremendously. The YC Startup School has excellent resources on entrepreneurship.

My biggest advice is to get started without fear. If you treat this journey as a learning experience, you’ll gain valuable insights regardless of the outcome.
